Uninvited

 I’m excited to let you know that I’ll be signing books at the BUT Film Market in Breda on Saturday, August 30. If you’re attending the festival, don’t hesitate to stop by and say hello.

That same evening, I’ll also be introducing Greydon Clark’s cult classic UNINVITED (1988). If you haven’t seen it before, get ready: this horror/sci-fi hybrid is completely bonkers and follows a seemingly normal house cat that’s host to a mutated, murderous creature. After escaping a laboratory, the cat stows away on a yacht owned by a corrupt businessman and proceeds to eliminate the passengers one by one.

Join Me at the Winter BUT in Breda

 

Hi everyone!

On January 4, I’ll be heading to Breda, the Netherlands, for a book signing at Winter BUT! The place to be is Poppodium Phoenix from 12:00 pm to 07:00 pm. 

The festival celebrates all things underground and alternative and always has something interesting happening, so make sure to check out their full program if you’re planning to visit.

It’s going to be a laid-back and friendly vibe, so don’t hesitate to stop by and say hello. And if you’ve got one of my books already, feel free to bring it along for a signature!

Broadcast Signal Intrusion

 

On September 3, I'll be giving an introduction to the excellent conspiracy thriller Broadcast Signal Intrusion (2021), which will be playing at the BUT Film Festival at 10:00 pm. 

Broadcast Signal Intrusion tells the story of a video archivist who unearths a series of sinister pirate broadcasts and becomes obsessed with uncovering the dark conspiracy behind them. The film is based on such real-life conspiracy theories as Tara the Android and Max Headroom.

Ms. 45 and A Gun For Jennifer

The BUT FILM FESTIVAL asked me to select two titles for their "revenge movies" retrospective. My picks: Abel Ferrara's Ms. 45 aka Angel of Vengeance (1981) and Todd Morris' A Gun For Jennifer (1997). I'll be introducing both films on September 4 (11 am and 05:30 pm).

Ocean's Twelve filming locations in Amsterdam

Where did they film Ocean's Twelve in Amsterdam?

In Ocean's Twelve, Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) locates all eleven members of Danny Ocean's gang, demanding they return the $150 million they stole from his casinos plus interest. To win back the money, Danny Ocean (George Clooney), Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) and Linus Caldwell (Matt Damon) go to Amsterdam to steal an important certificate.

Ocean's Twelve is full of stunning shots of Amsterdam. All the places you see are located in the proximity of each other, which means you can easily trace the steps of your favorite characters.

I made an itinerary for you that will help you see the filming locations of Ocean's Twelve, which are all famous places in Amsterdam.

Life lately

Left to right, top to bottom: 

(1) Reading in bed... I've been doing a lot of that lately. You can find some of the things I've been reading lately here. I haven't read Sue Gee's novel yet, but with such a title not much can go wrong; 

(2) My reading buddy: Avalon; 

(3) and (4) After having spent several hours on a Brussels' terrace to enjoy the first days of summer under a canopy of trees, Gilles and I tried the vegetarian burgers at Ellis. A delightful evening;

(5) and (6) After my visit of the abandoned haunted convent in St. Anna ter Muiden, I accompanied Ingrid Jorgensen (author of the travel story Go East) to the nearby village of Sluis;

(7) Bloody Birthday was the first horror movie I ever showed to my baby sister Jennifer. Because we are both in a nostalgic mood lately, we opted for a movie night in bed with this film. This is a screenshot of Bloody Birthday;

(8) Enjoying the sun and my sister's company in the park of Zaventem;

(9) and (10) Gilles and I went for a walk in the forest to see the viewpoint La roche du chat which translates as Cat's Rock. No cats were seen, but we had a close encounter with a wild boar.

Abandoned haunted convent

Last weekend I visited one of the creepiest urbex destinations in Europe: the abandoned haunted convent Het Hoompje in St. Anna ter Muiden in Sluis, Netherlands.

Many have seen ghostly nuns walking through the walls or walking on the nearby highway. EVP recordings have detected clear voices and warnings. Things have gotten worse since witches and Satanists have performed rituals in the cellar. No wonder that the entrance of the cellar is marked with the words: "Welcome to hell!"

I went into the abandoned haunted convent by myself (my fellow travelers didn't dare go in), but no ghosts have tried to seek my company. I personally don't see any ghosts on the photos either, but friends who adore the subject claim there are several ones on these pictures. Can you see them?

If you're interested in visiting Het Hoompje, you have to go to St. Anna ter Muiden, which is part of the municipality Sluis in the Netherlands. The convent is on your right, just before you enter Sluis. Pay close attention because the building is hidden by lush vegetation and only the top of the tower is visible.
