I’m excited to let you know that I’ll be signing books at the BUT Film Market in Breda on Saturday, August 30. If you’re attending the festival, don’t hesitate to stop by and say hello.
That same evening, I’ll also be introducing Greydon Clark’s cult classic UNINVITED (1988). If you haven’t seen it before, get ready: this horror/sci-fi hybrid is completely bonkers and follows a seemingly normal house cat that’s host to a mutated, murderous creature. After escaping a laboratory, the cat stows away on a yacht owned by a corrupt businessman and proceeds to eliminate the passengers one by one.

Hey everyone! This Friday at the BUT Film Festival in Breda, I'll be introducing The Deep Ones (2020) and The Old Ones (2024) by Chad Ferrin. Both films dive deep into the world of H.P. Lovecraft—perfect for those who love a good cosmic scare!
THE DEEP ONES (2020) is Ferrin’s take on Lovecraft’s The Shadow over Innsmouth. The film plunges viewers into a world where an idyllic seaside community hides a terrifying secret tied to ancient, aquatic beings known as the Deep Ones. With its eerie atmosphere and unsettling storyline, it’s a modern tribute to Lovecraft’s influence on horror.
THE OLD ONES (2024) continues in the same vein, drawing even more deeply from Lovecraft’s mythos. This film explores the cosmic horror of ancient, godlike entities that exist beyond human comprehension.
If you're into Lovecraftian horror—those tales of ancient gods, cosmic dread, and the insignificance of humanity in the vastness of the universe— come check them out this Friday at the festival!
On September 3, I'll be giving an introduction to the excellent conspiracy thriller Broadcast Signal Intrusion(2021), which will be playing at the BUT Film Festival at 10:00 pm.
Broadcast Signal Intrusion tells the story of a video archivist who unearths a series of sinister pirate broadcasts and becomes obsessed with uncovering the dark conspiracy behind them. The film is based on such real-life conspiracy theories as Tara the Android and Max Headroom.
The BUT FILM FESTIVAL asked me to select two titles for their "revenge movies" retrospective. My picks: Abel Ferrara's Ms. 45 aka Angel of Vengeance (1981) and Todd Morris' A Gun For Jennifer (1997). I'll be introducing both films on September 4 (11 am and 05:30 pm).

This year, the BUT Film Festival in Breda, the Netherlands, is organizing an entire program centered on cinematic evil children. I've chosen several of these titles, which I'll be introducing on September 2nd. Copies of my latest book, Evil Seeds: The Ultimate Movie Guide to Villainous Children, will be available at the festival as well.
The evil-child movies I'll be introducing at the festival are:
Kill, Baby... Kill! (1966)
As an influential killer-kid movie, Mario Bava's Kill, Baby... Kill! put its mark on many other cult classics, including Salem's Lot, Spirits of the Dead, Fear Dot Com, and Ring. Hopefully, the image of the ghostly girl (it's actually a boy, but don't tell anyone) will haunt you forever.
The Children of Ravensback (1980)
A busload of children has disappeared from the quiet New England town of Ravensback, and Sheriff Billy Hart is on the case. A short while later, he manages to track down the kids, but unfortunately, they seem to have been transformed into murderous zombies by a cloud of radioactive gas. How can he stop the killer tykes before they destroy the town?
Disciples of the Crow (1983)
In this short film adaptation of Stephen King's "Children of the Corn", a bickering couple passing through a small Oklahoma town discover that it has been taken over by a homicidal cult that worships a crow god... and that all the cult members are children.
Children of the Corn (1984)
A boy preacher named Isaac goes to Gatlin, Nebraska, and gets all the children to murder every adult in town and to form a religious cult. A young couple on a road trip stops in Gatlin to report a murder and seek help, but the town seems deserted. They are soon trapped in Gatlin with little chance of getting out alive.
On September 4th, I'll be giving an introduction to the Indonesian cult film Mystics in Bali on the But Film Festival online streaming platform. Mystics is one of the most insane horror movies ever made, yet it's based on a 'true story': the mythological figure of the Leyak. Most Indonesian people are so afraid of the Leyak you can't even mention the name in their presence. Will you be brave enough to watch Mystics in Bali through the BUT free streaming program? 😉
To celebrate the book release of Strange Blood: 71 Essays on Offbeat and Underrated Vampire Movies, BUT (B-movies, Underground & Trash) Film Festival in Breda, the Netherlands, asked me to select a vampire film for their program. My choice was Jeffrey Arsenault's Night Owl. I'll be giving an introduction to this film on Thursday, August 29th. Night Owl will be preceded by the short film Orlok's Return, produced by one of the contributors of Strange Blood, Declan Lynch.
If you want to get your personal copy of Strange Blood, you can do so on Saturday, August 31st, where I'll be signing books at the BUT film market between 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm. Harry Kümel, the director of the vampire cult classic Daughters of Darkness, will also be present at the book signing.
I'll be signing copies of my books Avalon and Drowned Sorrow at the BUT Film and Music Fair in Breda, the Netherlands.
