Harry Potter exhibition in Brussels

harry potter exhibition brussels

On the last day of 2016, I went to see the Harry Potter exhibition in Brussels. Judging from the pictures, it looked a magical experience. It truly was.

Here are a few photos...

The exhibition starts like any Harry Potter adventure: with the Hogwarts Express.

You pass this iconic train in an atmospheric, beautifully lit room where snow falls upon you. You are instantly immersed in Harry Potter's magical world.

You are led into the Gryffindor area. Gryffindor is one of the four departments of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Here you can look at a large number of costumes, props, and set pieces. There's Harry Potter's magic wand, the love potion-infused chocolate cauldrons used in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, a copy of the book A History of Magic, the Time-Turner used by Hermione Jean Granger and Harry Potter to go back in time in The Prisoner of Azkaban, objects from Sybilla Zwamdrift's classroom, and much more.

You also walk past Harry Potter's dormitory, complete with a collection of objects such as Harry Potter's bed, mirror, curtains, and bedside table.

You can also pull your own Mandrake in the Herbology classroom.

Next, you're in the Quidditch area.

Quidditch is the most popular sport in the world of wizardry. It's played with broomsticks – in the air – and with four balls.

In this area of the Harry Potter exhibition, you find movie props such as garments, flags, pennants, broomsticks, hats, binoculars, and goblets used during the Quidditch World Cup in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

You can even practice tossing a Quaffle ball yourself.

Soon thereafter, you enter an atmospheric room dedicated to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Some things you'll see here are original costumes, Buckbeak the hippogriff, and pumpkin head.

Then you walk into a cozy representation of Hagrid's Hut.

Rubeus Hagrid is the keeper of keys and grounds at Hogwarts, and lives with his dog, Fang, in a hut bordering the edge of the Forbidden Forest.

Around the cabin, you'll meet some of the strange creatures from the Forbidden Forest: the Hungarian Horntail Dragon, the Centaur, and Aragog the giant spider.

After going through a room featuring the Death Eaters you arrive at the last part of the Brussels' exhibition – the Great Hall. This room contains the Phoenix, Christmas dinner props, Harry Potter candy, the Quidditch board game, a giant Christmas tree, and more original costumes.

Then comes the souvenir shop by which point you're ready to buy lots of overpriced goodies such as wands, candy, mintsmugs, glasses, costumes, T-shirts, booklets, books, and more.

Is the Harry Potter exhibition worth the money?

Absolutely. I'm not a Harry Potter fan, but the exhibition manages to convey a truly magical feeling. You're totally immersed in the world of witchcraft and wizardry for at least one hour and a half.

Because it's so good, I also wanted to stay a little longer. While the Harry Potter exhibition is definitely not small, I wished they would have featured more sets (such in the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London).

Practical information

The Harry Potter Exhibition started in Chicago and is touring from city to city, including Boston, Toronto, Seattle, New York, Sydney, Singapore, Tokyo, Paris, Shangai, and Brussels.

As the exhibition is popular, timed-entry tickets are required.

You can opt for a tour with or without audio commentary.

Have you been to the Harry Potter exhibition? Did you like it?

  2. Hi Vanessa - I'm not a great fan of Harry Potter, but quite see the attraction for the kids etc. This looks like an amazing attraction ... without the hoards ... I went to see a Graphic Art exhibition in London about a collaboration on one of the books - which I found fascinating ... I wrote about it in 2013 ... and dyslexia ...

I'd love to see this one - but I'm here! Thanks for sharing with us though - cheers Hilary

  6. I'm glad you enjoyed it! My wife went a while ago and a good week ago we visited the studios in Watford Junction, just above London.
My wife said the two were not to be compared, the studios in Watford Junction are really impressive. I'm still working on my pictures up until now I've only posted 3 of them on my flickr, there is a lot more yet to come. I even have a short film of where my son's girfriend says "up" and the broomstick elevates into her hand.

  7. I went to the HP Exhibit about 8 years ago in Boston, MA. I am a huge HP fan- so I loved it. It was fun to see all of the artifacts from the movies and it was great to see all the souvenirs in the gift shop too. Glad you enjoyed it, even though you aren't a big fan. :)
