Linda Weaver Clarke interviews me about GPS WITH BENEFITS

hilarious short film

Linda Weaver Clarke, author of the series A Family Saga In Bear Lake, Idaho and The Adventures Of John And Julia Evans, interviewed me for her blog about my latest short film script, GPS With Benefits. Here's the interview in case you missed it.

Linda Weaver Clarke: As you know, I have a weekly book giveaway and today I'm featuring a new author, Vanessa Morgan. Please tell us about your book, Vanessa.

Vanessa Morgan: GPS WITH BENEFITS is a funny short story about a GPS device with a mind of "her" own. It’s scheduled to be turned into a film in 2013.

Linda Weaver Clarke: Hilarious! Where did you get your inspiration for this story?

Vanessa Morgan: The inspiration for GPS WITH BENEFITS came to me when I was in the car with a friend. We made jokes about the GPS and imagined what it would be like if the device were aware of the driver and his thoughts. I immediately knew that this could be turned into a crazy story. I won’t reveal more, but GPS WITH BENEFITS has some twists and turns that you won’t expect and that will have you laughing out loud.

Linda Weaver Clarke: What kind of research did you have to do for this book?

Vanessa Morgan: I observed people’s driving behavior, the small things that distracted them.

Linda Weaver Clarke: This book sounds fun! What does your family think about your writing?

Vanessa Morgan: Most of them don’t speak or understand English (I’m originally from Belgium and my native language is Dutch), so they can’t read my books. But they’re proud when they see me on television or in magazines.

Linda Weaver Clarke: That is very interesting, Okay, it’s time to tell us something about the real you that we’ll never forget.

Vanessa Morgan: I probably know more about horror movies than anyone else. Also, I love languages. I speak Dutch, French, English, Spanish and a bit of German and I’ve written screenplays and books in three different languages. Even though I write stories about cars and GPS devices, I don't have a driver's license.

Linda Weaver Clarke: Wow! That's 5 different languages. I'm impressed. I learned Spanish and enjoyed it very much but I don't think I could learn any more than two, which includes English. I've heard that English is one of the most difficult languages to learn so I should feel grateful that I grew up with it. Hahaha.

  1. This story sounds like it could be hilarious. I always talk back to my GPS, so I would love to see the character's reaction in this one.

  2. I love the idea of a GPS with a mind of its own, after all, they DO tell you things to do and places to go that aren’t always right. I have one in my finished play,(which I am going to re-write as a story, because almost no one will read an unagented play, and the line, “Based on her play…” really appeals to me!) Anyway, last summer when my sister and I traveled to NC to a family reunion, two cousins,(brothers who had also come from out-of-state), tried to take us to dinner. We hardly had any time to eat because the GPS the one brother had kept sending us up and down a main road , then saying,”Make a legal U-turn”. Finally, he called the restaurant and found that we were on ‘South” whatever the road was and we needed “North”. That GPS kept telling us over and over, “Make a legal U-turn”!

  10. Your book sounds great and so interesting! I find it crazy you don't even own a driver's license! When she was younger my daughter kept saying she never wanted to get one. When she turned eighteen and moved out, she finally gave in and got one. :)

  24. Your recipes seriously started me thinking about all the interesting ways I can add squash into my family's world. Right now I tend to hide it in recipes and use it as a binder in soups or stews. I can't wait to make it the highlight.

With CPS Test players can practice fast clicking and increase their number of clicks per second to induce a plus in games. Always remember that to induce faster at CPS test, you would like to practice advanced clicking methods like jitter click, butterfly click, and drag click.
